Oregon drivers needing emissions tests are facing unexpected delays after a cyberattack struck the Department of Environmental Quality on Wednesday.

The attack was discovered early Wednesday morning, prompting officials to immediately shut down DEQ’s networks to isolate and protect agency servers. While the full extent of the attack remains unclear, DEQ spokesperson Lauren Wirtis has reassured the public that no personal data appears to have been compromised.

“As far as we know right now, there’s been no data breach and no access to information,” Wirtis told local media.

The closure primarily affects drivers in Portland and Medford, the only regions requiring emissions testing. Many arrived at stations on Thursday to find closed doors and signs citing “IT issues.”

Officials expect services to resume by Monday. Your DEQ Online, the agency’s environmental data management system, remains operational as it’s hosted on a separate server.
