Medford residents can look forward to a revitalized Jackson Park by 2026, as plans move forward for a comprehensive $2.3 million renovation project. The aging west Medford park, which has served the community since the 1960s, is set for major upgrades including the city’s largest splash pad to replace the decommissioned pool.
“It’s maybe our worst park in terms of quality and age, and it’s going to go from the bottom of the list to probably top five in terms of coolness,” said Parks and Recreation Director Rich Rosenthal in a recent interview.
The city council has unanimously approved applying for a $1 million state grant to supplement the $1.4 million already allocated from the Park Improvement Fund. If the grant isn’t awarded, the remaining funds would come from the city’s next biennial budget.
Work will begin this summer with the demolition of the 1960s-era pool, which was replaced by the new Rogue X facility. The renovated park will feature not just an elaborate splash pad, but also sandy volleyball courts, a large dog park, bike skills area, and shaded picnic spaces.
Key Points:
- Jackson Park’s $2.3 million renovation will transform one of Medford’s oldest parks
- The project will replace the defunct 1960s pool with Medford’s largest splash pad
- Additional features include volleyball courts, dog park, and bike skills area
- Pool demolition begins this summer, with completion expected by 2026
- The city is seeking a $1 million state grant with an April 1 application deadline
- Without the grant, the project will still proceed using future budget funds
