Ashland is ramping up efforts to prepare residents for the upcoming wildfire season. City officials and volunteers are urging everyone to create “fire free zones” by clearing a five-foot buffer of rocks or bare soil around homes, and extending it to ten feet for properties with wooden features. Maintenance is key: keep gutters, roofs, and yards clear of debris, and routinely check vents and siding for gaps where embers could enter.

Residents are reminded to choose fire-resistant plants and keep landscaping trimmed. Outdoor items like fuel containers and wood piles should be stored safely.

Preparedness also means having a “go bag” ready, packed with essentials, documents, and supplies for both people and pets. Residents are encouraged to sign up for Jackson Alerts, memorize evacuation zones, and plan multiple escape routes.

Community workshops and resources are available to help everyone get ready.
